Sierra Computer Group has been delivering the best talent, technology, and network solutions for Northern Nevada for nearly 40 years.
The company was founded by Darren McBride, as “Sierra Computer Control” in 1982, pioneering work in the field of English/Arabic computing for various Middle Eastern governments.
In 1987, as Sierra Computers Ltd, the company shifted focus to the resale of computer equipment and technical services for the local business community. Soon the operation moved to a larger location at 460 California Street, near downtown Reno. As the computer industry evolved, so did Sierra Computers, adding network technology, servers and a whole range of new business solutions.
In 1996, Sierra Computers bought the building and moved operations to the facility at 1900 Vassar Street, near the airport. It continues to occupy this location with its sister company, Highly Reliable Systems.
Known for its technical expertise and outstanding service, Sierra Computers was awarded the Reno Chamber “Excellence in Commerce” in 1996. In 1997, Mr. McBride was named “Outstanding Businessperson of the year” for Reno by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
In 2001 Sierra Computers and Training bought the assets of MicroAge Reno, a long-time competitor, combining the best of two of the oldest and largest computer resellers in Northern Nevada. Rod Coleman, General Manager of MicroAge joined Sierra at that time and continues in the same position for Sierra Computer Group.
In 2006, clients of Integrated Business Solutions were brought on board along with the resources required to support them. With each of these acquisitions came new partners, certifications and technologies. Since then, the company has focused on servers, networks and backup, providing installation, migration and server virtualization.
Also introduced was remote monitoring and proactive network maintenance. This new managed service approach allowed our clients to outsource their IT solution with confidence.
In 2010, clients from NetMergence and TELXAR became part of the newly named Sierra Computer Group. At the same time, a new remote management system allowed us to reduce costs while preventing unexpected downtime. These tools allow us to take complete responsibility for our client’s information technology.
By applying the best parts of each of these organization’s technologies, along with their extensive history and experience in managed IT services, has allowed Sierra Computer Group to emerge as the best solution for IT consulting in Northern Nevada.
